NORINE WARK MAKES AWARD-WINNING SYMPOSIUM PRESENTATION

Norine Wark has received the presentation award at the Athabasca University Education Innovation and Research Symposium 2015 for her work on FRAMEing 21st Century Graduate Attributes: Conceptualizing a research proposal on mobile learning and work. EIRS focuses on tools and approaches for technology-supported teaching at a distance.


POSTERS AND RESEARCH SITE FOR LEARNING TO LEARN ONLINE PRESENTED IN SWEDEN

A new research overview site for Learning to Learn Online, Athabasca University's first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), has launched in coordination with the presentation of two academic posters at the MOOCs in Scandinavia Conference. The site and both posters were developed by Dan Wilton, who was also web and visual designer for the course and is involved in initial data analysis for the research phase of the project.

DAN WILTON PRESENTS AT OE GLOBAL CONFERENCE

Dan Wilton spoke as part of an expert panel on conceptual issues in mapping open educational resources at the 2015 Open Education Global Conference in Banff, Alberta. The goal of the panel session was to ensure that those engaged in mapping projects for OER have a better understanding of the key issues and decisions in mapping OER around the globe.

Learning to Learn Online, Athabasca University's first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), has launched with over 1600 students from around the world. As part of the instructional design team, Dan Wilton provided visual and technical design and will continue to develop systems for research and analysis for this innovative course.

Norine Wark and Athabasca University have been asked by a Canadian firm to conduct independent evaluative research on advanced industrial training technologies featuring augmented reality. This new technology uses immersive 3D to provide innovative see-and-do skills training.

EMUNDUS ATLAS TO BE PRESENTED AT ICDE 2014 IN MOSCOW

The eMundus Atlas will be presented at the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) 2014 Conference at the Moscow State University of Economics, Statistics and Informatics (MESI) on September 26. The Atlas, developed by Dan Wilton for the eMundus Consortium and sponsored by the European Commission, is an online mapping and database application to capture and analyze collaborative activity in open educational resources around the world. It fulfills the first objective of the international eMundus project. This presentation and workshop session is titled "Map your Case of Collaboration through ICTs, OER, MOOCs and Virtual Mobility!"

NORINE WARK PRESENTS RESEARCH AT BEIJING/ATHABASCA SYMPOSIUM

Norine Wark, along with Drs. M. Ally and M. Cleveland-Innes, presented preliminary research findings into "Students' Use of Mobile Devices for Learning" at the first Beijing Normal University/Athabasca University Symposium in Edmonton, June 10-11, 2014. Department heads, selected professors, and doctoral students from the Beijing Normal University Distance Education and Research Department and the Education Institute of Beijing joined AU CDE faculty and doctoral students for this by-invitation inaugural symposium. The related study has now been published in a special issue of the European Journal of Open, Distance and E-Learning (EURODL).


DAN WILTON TO DEVELOP OPEN STUDIOS PORTAL

Drawing first upon artist interviews and Athabasca's own digitized art collection, the Open Studios portal is intended to become a resource for art programs in colleges and schools.

Phase One of the eMundus Atlas, developed by Dan Wilton, was presented to an international audience April 22 in Llubljana, Slovenia during the Open CourseWare Consortium Global Conference. DAN WILTON SELECTED TO HELP MAP THE WORLD'S EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES

Dan Wilton has been selected to provide web and mobile application development, information design, and research to map the world's open educational resources in a collaboration between UNESCO, Athabasca University, and the Education, Audiovisual & Cultural Executive Agency of the European Union. This important international initiative to build an interactive map for the global educational resource community will foster cooperation and provide greater access to valuable resources for learning across all regions of the world.


NORINE WARK AND TEAM DECLARED FINALISTS FOR BEST PAPER
September 15, 2013

Norine Wark and her mobile research team have been declared finalists for the Best Paper Award at the Fall 2012 EDEN conference held in Leuven, Belgium. The team won eighth place for the presentation on the effect of the use of mobile devices on students' emotional presence in online learning environments. They have now been invited to submit a paper on the research behind the presentation, soon to be published in EURODL's Special Edition: Best of EDEN 2012.

NEW POSTER RELEASED FOR KEEPERS VII

Wilton+Wark have developed a new poster for the Keepers VII Watershed Gatherings, the latest annual conference of Keepers working together to protect the northern waters of Canada. While this year's Gathering will be a smaller event than previously, it marks our sixth year of involvement with the Keepers of the Water and our fifth as the media development team.

WILTON+WARK DEVELOP INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN PACKAGES FOR PUBLIC HEALTH

Wilton+Wark delivered two instructional design packages for the Public Health Agency of Canada in Ottawa. These two courses deal with privacy issues and survey techniques for public health workers across Canada. In these instructional packages, Wilton+Wark carried out extensive revisions and restructuring of existing materials and supplemented them with new activity and evaluation components.
